State approves $1 million for med school project

Touro College will be getting $1 million in state money to use the now-vacant Horton Hospital in Middletown to open an osteopathic medical school, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office announced Wednesday.

This project has been in the works for a while; it’s certainly good news for Middletown that this project is getting funded, and for medicine and health throughout the Hudson Valley when it opens. Here’s the last story I did, when they were before the Planning Board:

The funding brings the project a step closer, but it’s not a done deal yet; there are still other approvals they need and things that have to be worked out.

I’m gathering more info and reactions on what this means now; check back here later and in tomorrow’s paper for more.
