The Bio-Tech building and Hudson Hall at SUNY Orange was evacuated for about a half-hour Monday morning due to smoke in the Bio-Tech building’s heating ducts.
It appears that some leaves that were caught in a grate on the outside of the Bio-Tech building that is part of the building’s ventilation system caught fire, said college spokesman Mike Albright. The smoke then got in the building’s duct system and spread through the building.
Hudson Hall was also evacuated as a precaution. The buildings were evacuated around 9:30 a.m., and people were allowed back in around 10 a.m.
Twenty classes in the Bio-Tech building and another 11 in Hudson Hall were affected, impacting about 500 people. The fire’s cause is unknown at this time.
