Saturday morning, downtown Middletown will again be full of runners, wine and song, for the eighth annual Run 4 Downtown.
The walk starts at 8:45 a.m., the run at 9 a.m. It starts on North Street, near Something Sweet Dessert Cafe, heads down South Street and makes a four-mile loop back to the starting point.
Dave and Anna Madden, the owners of Something Sweet and runners themselves, have been organizing the race since 2006. Two events that were just added to the run last year — an hour of Zumba with Damola Akinyemi from Studio Ayo, and “Taste of the Towns,” a sampling from area restaurants, are returning this year.
The event will also include wine tasting, provided by Hudson Valley Wineries; live music by the bands Replica and One Swift Kick; and a “Fun Zone” for kids, hosted by the YMCA of Middletown.
Orange Regional Medical Center is sponsoring the run this year, and for the next three at least. Middletown Kiwanis and John J. Lease Realtors are hosting “Taste of the Towns.”
Money raised by the run has, in the past, been used to improve the small park next to Something Sweet. Organizers said that all proceeds will go to support improvements downtown. For more information or to register, visit www.run4downtown.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
