Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the NY Philharmonic, will lead West Point and Juilliard Trombonists

The West Point Trombone Ensemble will present a recital on Sunday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the West Point Cadet Chapel. The West Point trombones will be joined by the renowned Juilliard Trombone Choir under the direction of Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic. This concert is free and open to the public.

The recital will feature a diverse program. Highlights include Asterism by Joseph Turrin, as well as the music of Antonin Dvorak. Tango and Jubilee, composed by West Point Band saxophonist Staff Sgt. Michael Reifenberg, will also be performed. Additionally, the recital will feature the work of West Point Trombone Ensemble member Master Sgt. Martin Tyce with his arrangement of A Scandinavian Folk Song Suite. The recital will close with John Williams’ classic theme from Superman.

The West Point Trombone Ensemble was formed in October of 2005. It is comprised of members of the West Point Concert Band and Jazz Knights. The West Point Trombone Ensemble exhibits a diversity of talents by performing a variety of trombone ensemble repertoire ranging from classical to jazz, and duets to large ensemble works.
