The program will highlight music that spans the decades of jazz’s remarkable journey, from its humble beginnings in turn-of-the 20th century New Orleans backstreets to its ascent as the towering music of the masses in 1930’s swing, on through the turbulent decades that followed, rejecting rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950’s and 1960’s then assimilating it into 1970’s fusion.

Today jazz enjoys a respected position as America’s indigenous musical art form, and its appeal extends across the globe, with groups of all shapes performing a vibrant music that integrates many world music styles. The Jazz Knights find joy as agents of this treasured musical heritage, representing its evolution in The History of Jazz concert.
Collectively, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Thad Jones will be among the giants of jazz whose music will be featured. Members of the Jazz Knights will provide their own unique contributions in numerous improvised solos. Staff Sgt. Alexis Cole, Jazz Knights vocalist, will also be featured on several numbers.
