West Point, NY – The West Point Concert Band will present its annual “Reunion Concert” on Sunday, June 20th at 7:30 p.m. at West Point’s beautiful Trophy Point Amphitheatre. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be held at Eisenhower Hall. Come enjoy an evening of music from members of the West Point Band, past and present. This concert is free and open to the public.

The performance will feature several conductors: Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Holtan, Captain Dae Kim, and Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) David Deitrick.  Selections to be performed include Festive Overture by Shostakovich, Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town, and America the Beautiful, to be sung by Staff Sergeant Carla Moebius. Additionally, Master Sergeant Julie Ditzel will be a featured flute soloist with the band one final time before her retirement. Master Sgt. Ditzel will be joined by Sergeant Major (Retired) Joel Evans on oboe as they perform Allegro Spiritoso from Salieri’s Concerto for Flute and Oboe. The concert will close with Tchaikovsky’s rousing Dance of the Jesters.

Master Sergeant Julie Ditzel received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, located in her native Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to joining the West Point Band in 1990, she worked as a freelance musician and clinician. Since arriving at West Point, Master Sgt. Ditzel has performed as a soloist with the band on several occasions, to include a solo performance at the National Flute Association Convention in 1996. Her teachers have included Jane Kirchner, Julius Baker and Trudy Kane. Master Sgt. Ditzel is currently the principal flutist of the Newburgh Symphony Orchestra and freelances throughout the Hudson Valley region.
Please allow extra travel time for the 100% vehicle and photo I.D. inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates. Due to changing security requirements at West Point, call the Academy Band’s hotline at 845-938-2617, or check www.westpoint.edu/special before leaving for the concert.
