You may know of Paul Ellis’ Kings Theater Company’s exit from the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center. These days Ellis and his Air Pirates Radio Theater are putting on shows in New York City (the first one being Saturday night). But things are still happening here, as Kings’ Youth Theater will be hosting local workshops right here in the HV this summer.
Here’s some info:
The Young Actors Program is continuing its training program this summer with its performance workshop.at the Seligmann Center for the Arts at the Orange County Citizens Foundation. The six-week program begins July 9 and takes place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in Sugar Loaf.
The summer program is a performance workshop. Throughout the summer students will be learning and refining the craft of acting while rehearsing a new production. This year the workshop will focus on developing a full production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. “This summer we are going to work on a classic. The location is perfect for this production and the students need to learn the language and style of a Shakespearian play,” says Paul Ellis Director of the program. Performances are scheduled for August 17 & 18.
The objective of the theater program is to provide young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in a theatre experience that will develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and a greater sense of self and community.
The Youth Theater program begins July 9 with performances on August 17 & 18. The fee for the six-week program is $400. To register, call 845-469-7563 or visit www.airpirateradio.com to register online.
