Good news for a local restaurateur:
Steve Barnes of the Albany Times-Union reports in his Table Hopping blog that Ric Orlando – he of New World Home Cooking at 1411 Route 212, Saugerties (he also owns New World Bistro Bar in Albany) – is a finalist in US Foods’ Next Top Product competition for his Eggplant Balls.
The balls, according to Barnes, are a vegetarian adaptation of traditional Neapolitan Balls.
I haven’t had the Eggplant Balls, but I (and many, many, many more) can vouch for Orlando’s Blackened String Beans.
Barnes writes that Orlando will compete in the finals in November in Las Vegas, where the winner will receive $5,000 cash, and $15,000 to go toward kitchen equipment, from US Foods.
