Hayworth has rival on GOP side

A 37-year-old businessman and former soldier from Poughkeepsie plans to run for New York’s 18th Congressional District seat this year, posing a challenge for former Rep. Nan Hayworth within the Republican Party as she hopes to take on the Democrat who unseated her two years ago.

The second Republican in the race is Andre Barnett, founder of an IT company called WiseDome. He filed as a candidate with the Federal Election Commission in January, has launched a website and is contacting Republican chairmen in the 18th’s four counties to ask about an endorsement convention.
