Skartados endorses Jacobson for Newburgh mayor

Assemblyman Frank Skartados, left, endorses City of Newburgh mayoral candidate Jonathan Jacobson, middle, on Tuesday. With them is City Council candidate Torrance Harvey.

Assemblyman Frank Skartados endorsed City of Newburgh mayoral candidate Jonathan Jacobson on Tuesday.

The endorsement came during an afternoon press conference at the Broadway headquarters for Jacobson and his slate-mates, City Council candidates Torrance Harvey and Hillary Rayford. Also on hand were current Councilwomen Regina Angelo and Cindy Holmes, both Jacobson supporters.

“He has been a role model and he has worked very hard for all the candidates, countywide and local,” Skartados said. “The man has the experience and the drive and the enthusiasm to move this city forward.”

In November’s general election, Jacobson will face incumbent Mayor Judy Kennedy and former Councilman John Giudice.

He defeated Kennedy in September’s Democratic primary, but the mayor will be on the ballot for the general election after garnering eight write-in votes to earn the Independence Party line. Giudice will run as a Republican and Conservative, and on a third line called “Reform.”

“This is a big step in our march for change in Newburgh,” Jacobson said.
