Teachout wins endorsement from national progressive committee

Soon after announcing she was running to replace Republican Rep. Chris Gibson, Democrat Zephyr Teachout won the endorsement from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a left-leaning Washington D.C.-based Political Action Committee.

Calling Teachout “a rising star of the Elizabeth Warren wing,” the PAC wasted no time in getting behind Teachout.

On its website the Progressive Change Campaign Committee says it has “nearly 1 million members” and fights for progressive change.  It says it was founded in 2009 by Adam Green, a former MoveOn online organizer and Democratic party communications worker, and Stephanie Taylor, a former MoveOn and SEIU organizer.

“The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is proud to endorse Zephyr Teachout as she runs in one of the most competitive congressional seats in 2016,” reads an email from the committee. “Political insiders will be watching to see how much grassroots support she gets in her opening days.”

The email also invites people to donate $3 to her campaign, which hasn’t yet been registered with the Federal Elections Commission. The committee says it raised more $1.2 million and made more than 1,000,000 calls to voters in 2014 for candidates they supported.

Teachout, 44, has rented a house in Dutchess County since March. Gibson, a former Army Colonel, is retiring at the end of the year.
