Surrogates for Clinton, Sanders will hold debate

Teams of supporters of the Democratic presidential contenders Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton will square off in place of their preferred candidates at a debate at Wallkill Town Hall Hall Tuesday night.

Michael Sussman, the Goshen attorney and Democratic activist, will moderate the 7 p.m. debate. “We have two talented teams prepared to answer the hard questions and the softballs,” Sussman said in a press release announcing the debate. “I look forward to a fair forum, during which all of the critical differences in style and personality can be fully explored.”

The participants are volunteers, not paid campaign staffers, and they will answer questions from the audience, Sussman and the media, according to the announcement. Wallkill Town Hall is at 99 Tower Drive.

The event is scheduled one day after the Iowa caucuses, the first voting contest for the Vermont senator and the former first lady, senator and secretary of state in their race for the Democratic nomination.
