Dutchess Dems endorse Delgado in NY19 race

Rhinebeck attorney Antonio Delgado announced Friday that the Dutchess County Democratic Committee has endorsed him in his competition with five other Democrats to challenge Republican Rep. John Faso for New York’s 19th Congressional District seat.

The announcement said the committee voted late Thursday night and was the first county to make an endorsement in the Democratic race. No other information was available about the voting and how the other candidates fared.

“I’m honored to have received the Dutchess County Democratic Committee endorsement, and humbled by the strong grassroots support I have received, “ Delgado said in a press release.

The portion of Dutchess in the 19th District has 25,000 enrolled Democrats, the second highest voter total of the 11 counties in the sprawling district, behind Ulster’s 46,000 Democrats. The Ulster and Sullivan Democratic leaders told the Times Herald-Record in January that their committees didn’t plan to endorse a preferred candidate in the 19th District, leaving that choice to Democratic voters in a June 26 primary.

Faso, a Kinderhook Republican and former state assemblyman, succeeded Republican Chris Gibson last year and will seek a second term in November.
