DCCC adds Delgado to “Red to Blue” candidate list

Two days after his primary victory in New York’s 19th Congressional District, the House Democrats’ campaign arm has made Antonio Delgado one of its top prospects for the fall, adding him to a list of 55 challengers they will help try to unseat Republican House members.

The Rhinebeck attorney won a seven-way race on Tuesday to take on Republican Rep. John Faso, a swing-district freshman that Democrats have set their sights on. By adding Delgado to its “Red to Blue” program, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is pledging to give him organizational and fundraising support. (Delgado has done pretty well so far on fundraising, having collected $2.3 million by June 6.)

“Antonio Delgado has the strength, integrity and dedication to give this community the voice it deserves,” DCCC Chairman Ben Ray Luján said in a statement on Thursday.

Three of the 55 Republican districts the DCCC is currently focused on flipping are in New York: Staten Island’s 11th District, where Army veteran Max Rose is taking on Rep. Dan Donovan; the 19th, the 11-county district that Faso represents and that includes Ulster and Sullivan; and the 22nd, an 8-county swath of central New York in which Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is attempting to unseat freshman Rep. Claudia Tenney.
