Three building trade unions endorse Skoufis for Senate

Assemblyman James Skoufis announced the endorsements of three building trade unions on Friday in his campaign for the 39th Senate District seat Bill Larkin is vacating.

The Woodbury Democrat said that Teamsters Local 445, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 373 and Laborers Local 754 all backed him, joining a fourth trade union - International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825 – that endorsed him in June.

“These unions play a vital role in our economy by putting our neighbors to work, rebuilding our infrastructure, and supporting commercial activity right here in the Hudson Valley,” Skoufis said in a press release. “When I get to the State Senate, I’ll continue to fight for good-paying local jobs, safe workplaces, and the fundamental right to collectively bargain.”

Robert Ambrosetti, business manager of Local 373, said in a statement that the 39th District race is “crucial for the future of many working people in Orange, Rockland and Ulster counties” and that Skoufis has been “a proven fighter for our brothers and sisters in labor.”

“At a time when political extremists are hell bent on destroying labor, James has always put people before politics,” he said.
