Democratic challenger Antonio Delgado led Republican Rep. John Faso by seven percentage points in a phone poll the House Democrats’ campaign arm conducted in New York’s 19th Congressional District in the two days after Delgado’s primary victory last month.
Delgado, a Rhinebeck attorney, led the freshman congressman by 49 percent to 42 percent in a survey of 545 likely voters on June 27 and June 28, according to a summary the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released on Wednesday. The same poll found that 45 percent of respondents had an unfavorable view of Faso, compared to 30 percent who viewed him favorably.
Delgado beat six other Democratic contenders with 22 percent of the vote in a June 26 primary, finishing four points ahead of his nearest rivals. His campaign released its first commercial of the general election race on Wednesday, a two-minute TV and digital ad that opens with his humble upbringing in Schenectady and talks about the values with which he was raised.
