Harvey, Lee file petitions for City of Newburgh mayor’s seat

City of Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey and former Councilwoman Gay Lee will tentatively face each other in a September Democratic primary as they seek to serve the last year of the four-year term won by the late Mayor Judy Kennedy in 2015.

Kennedy died on April 15, less than three-and-a-half years into her second four-year term as mayor. Harvey, who was serving his first term as Councilman, was chosen by his colleagues to fill the mayor’s seat until November’s general election.

Both Harvey and Lee submitted petitions last week to run as Democrats.
