Firefighters association endorses Maloney for re-election

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced the endorsement on Friday of the New York State Professional Firefighters Association for his bid for a fourth House term.

The Cold Spring Democrat has helped the City of Newburgh Fire Department obtain three federal grants since 2013 to avert layoffs, including a $1.5 million grant he announced in September.

“Congressman Maloney has always battled to help get the Newburgh Fire Department the manpower we need to keep our City safe,” Newburgh Fire Chief Terry Ahlers said in a campaign press release. “He has stood with us when we were at our lowest, and never gave up. He fought for the safety of the citizens, visitors, and firefighters in a small, challenged city. To me, he has not forgotten where he came from. What he has done for us proves that he fights for the small guy, the Average Joe.”
