Farley makes NRCC’s “On the Radar” list

Chele Chiavacci Farley was one of 43 Republican congressional candidates listed on Friday as promising contenders for the party in potentially competitive districts in 2020.

Farley, who plans to challenge Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney for New York 18th Congressional District seat, made the “On the Radar” lineup for the House Republicans’ campaign arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee. “On the Radar” is the first level in the NRCC’s Young Guns program, and is assigned to candidates who “have met the minimum threshold in campaign organization and show potential to achieve greater status in the program,” according to the NRCC.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in a statement announcing the “On the Radar” candidates that he’s “focused on ensuring they have the resources they need to win.”

Farley was one of only two New Yorkers on the list. The other was Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, a Staten Islander who ran for New York City mayor in 2017 and plans to challenge Democratic freshman Max Rose in the 11th District next year.

Farley, a private-equity executive who ran for U.S. Senate against Kirsten Gillibrand last year, announced her congressional campaign in April and reported raising $260,000 in her first three months.
