Farley blasts closed-door impeachment inquiry

Republican congressional candidate Chele Chiavacci Farley denounced House Democrats on Friday for gathering testimony for their impeachment inquiry behind closed doors, and praised Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham for his resolution demanding due process for President Trump.

Farley, who plans to challenge Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney next year for the 18th District seat, accused Democrats of waging a “reckless and sham impeachment inquiry with the clear goal of removing a duly-elected President from office.” She took part in a recent rally that Trump supporters staged in Newburgh, led by the state Republican chairman, to protest the inquiry.

“There has been no due process, no cross examination, no representation for the President, no public committee hearings and no access to witnesses or even transcripts of testimony,” Farley said in her statement. She went on to say that “Americans who love and care about our basic freedoms must make their positions heard on election day in 2020.”

Democrats say they will hold public impeachment hearings after the initial questioning of witnesses in private by committee members from both parties.
