NFL Picks Week 14: 0-1 already

These Thursday nighters are starting to kill me. Went way against the grain with the Raiders getting 10 and they lost by 13. Great defensive effort by Oakland, hanging in there and forcing Manning and the guys to kick field goals. But Carson Palmer and the offense was atrocious. Palmer is now 7-15 as Raiders quarterback. His replacement in Cincinnati, Andy Dalton, is xx and working on leading the Bengals to their second straight playoff berth.

I would be miffed if last week’s 6-10 record included a bunch of bad picks. That was not the case. I lost, get this, one game by a half point (New England, minus 7.5, beat Miami by 7); one by a point (Tampa Bay plus 7 against Denver, lost by 8); one by a kneel down (Jets’ Shonn Greene stopped short of the end zone against Arizona in the final seconds to prevent the cover) and one by a 98-yard punt return inside of a minute left (Dallas, favored by 10.5, inexplicably allowed the cover).

Unbelievable.

So without any type of creative thinking, that 6-10 record could have been 10-6.

Onto Week 14 with the knowledge that luck probably isn’t going to be on my side. Best bets are in CAPS.

St. Louis plus 3 at Buffalo

Kansas City plus 6.5 at Cleveland

Philadelphia plus 7.5 at Tampa Bay

Jacksonville plus 3 vs. Jets

Pittsburgh minus 8 vs. San Diego

Chicago minus 3 at Minnesota

Carolina plus 3.5 vs. Atlanta

Cincinnati minus 3 vs. Dallas

TENNESSEE plus 5 at Indianapolis

Baltimore plus 2.5 at Washington

SAN FRANCISCO minus 10 vs. Miami

Giants minus 5 vs. New Orleans

Arizona plus 10 at Seattle

DETROIT plus 6.5 at Green Bay

MNF: New England minus 3.5 vs. Houston

Last week overall: 6-10

Last week best bets: 2-1

Season record: 89-99-3

Season best bets: 22-17
