Patiently Waiting

Unfortunately, our game against James
I. O’Neill got canceled for Thursday and our next scheduled game isn’t for
another week. It’s been such a long wait for the first game, but the day will
come.

I, for one, cannot wait to finally begin playing regular season games and
I bet I can speak for my whole team on that notion. When I asked senior
co-captain Brendan Smith how he feels about waiting so long to finally play the
first regular season game, he said “It stinks” very
abruptly, “we don’t know what to
practice for because we haven’t faced real competition yet.”

While I was with Brendan, I asked him a couple questions.
Nothing too in depth, it’s just the beginning of my little spin around Cornwall
High. I’ll explain that a little later.

When I asked Brendan which game he was
most looking forward to, without hesitation, came the words: “The last game of
the season against Goshen at home.”

Why?

“Because it’s our homecoming game
against our division rival. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

As for me
personally, I’d have to say playing Middletown at their new Faller Field
Complex. I’ve heard such great things about that field.

Back to Brendan: Do you have any pre-game
rituals? “Not really. I just listen to music to get me going.”

Anyway, I’ll explain my little run around Cornwall now. My
whole idea behind this is structured around ‘Mort Goes to Camp’, where Chris
Mortensen, an award winning ESPN journalist, travels around the country visiting
NFL teams’ preseason camps.

Well, use that concept on a big high school and you
have my upcoming feature. I’ll try to get as many interesting stories as I can
come up with to make it an enjoyable experience for all. I’ve yet to come up
with a name for this ordeal, but I’ll be sure to make it creative. Stay tuned.
