We’re a little past the halfway point of the 2011-12 ice hockey season, so let’s take a look at where our local teams stand.
In Section 9, Monroe-Woodbury is 10-1-1 and was ranked No. 8 in the latest NYS Division I poll. The Crusaders are essentially a lock to advance to the NYS regional playoffs. They’ll play the Section 1 champion March 3 in a state quarterfinal game. The winner of that advances to the state Final Four March 10 in Utica against the Section 3/6 playoff winner.
Monroe-Woodbury competes in the Scarsdale tournament this weekend. M-W and Newburgh Free Academy square off at 6:50 p.m. Jan. 29 at Sport-O-Rama.
Newburgh Free Academy is 2-10-1, with the wins coming against Nyack and Ossining. The Goldbacks have non-league games remaining against Byram Hills (1/15), North Rockland (1/21) and Somers (2/12).
