Cornwall: Despite losing five starters, Cornwall the seven-time defending Section 9 Class A champions, should be a player once again. Junior outside hitters Alex Jurgens, Tricia Hartnett and Tara Mirabile all return.
Minisink Valley: Along with outside hitter Rachel Pierson, Minisink Valley, last year’s Class AA runner-ups, return senior outside hitter Whitney Coyle. Coach Ellen Lain is expecting a big year from Coyle, who missed parts of last year with injuries. Junior setter Cassie Lumbrazo, a returning starter, should also make an impact for the Warriors.
Pine Bush: Including headliners Meredith Przybocki and Alissa Field, Pine Bush returns eight seniors who have started since their sophomore years. Once again, the Bushmen are the favorites to win the Section 9 Class AA championships. Pine Bush has won 11 (eight Class AA and three A) Section 9 titles in a row.
Wallkill: Third-year coach Julie McLaud hopes that Wallkill becomes a yearly contender in Class A. She said that the program has benefited from, among other things, her players playing year-round travel volleyball. “We want to be in the mix in the playoffs as an annual thing,” McLaud said. “Hopefully, soon we can make it to states.”
Along with Busse, Wallkill returns senior outside hitters Carly Markos and Lia Cirigliano. Right side hitter Danielle Hrelja, another senior, should also make an impact for the Panthers.
Warwick: A Class AA semifinalist last season, Warwick returns eight players, including five starters: Senior setter/right hitter Taylor Baldwin, senior middle hitter Erin Byrne, senior libero Paige Catanni, junior setter Maddie Zwickl and outside hitter Rachel Janes, a senior.
