A total of 30 high school girls’ soccer teams from Section 9 have previously played in the New York State tournament semifinal round. You can add two more this year as Washingtonville (Class AA) and Cornwall (Class A) have advanced to the Final Four in the Cortland area this weekend.
Only 10 teams have won their semifinal matches and moved on to the finals. Of those teams, Section 9 owns a 2-7-1 record in championship matches. S.S. Seward is the only school to win three state titles, in 1987 (Class D) and 2007 (Class C), with the 2009 team (Class D) being declared co-champions after forging a tie.
