Minisink Valley sophomore Gerard Daly, a 2012 Section 9 Division I 99-pound champion, will have season-ending knee surgery Tuesday, coach Kevin Gallagher said.
Daly, who went 39-6 last season, was expected to wrestle at 113 pounds. Gallagher said Daly was experiencing a lack of blood flow to his knee.
“His knee has been bothering him for a while,” Gallagher said. “I’m glad they found out what was wrong and they can fix it. He’s only a sophomore but it feels like he’s been around forever. He’s made a big impact for us and is a leader. He’ll be missed a lot. He’s been coming to practice every day trying to help out.”
Minisink Valley also lost another top wrestler in its lineup. Sophomore Mason Rambrose, a 113-pounder and Section 9 quarterfinalist last season, moved to Connecticut.
