Since we’re at the halfway point of the season, more or less, I thought I’d take a look at how the Section 9 tournament seedings might pan out if the playoffs were to begin today.

Class AA: Monroe-Woodbury would likely be the No. 1 seed. Warwick, Roosevelt, Minisink Valley, Valley Central, Newburgh and Kingston would probably be the next six seeds in some order. Washingtonville, Middletown and Pine Bush would be on the outside looking in at this point.

Class A: Wallkill is the top seed here. Cornwall and Red Hook would be 2-3 in some order. Monticello, Goshen and Port Jervis would all make it in now with overall records better than .500, but the fourth place team in Division III probably winds up with a losing record overall as well as in the division.

Class B: Coleman Catholic is probably the No. 1 seed on the strength of its non-league victories. Marlboro, Onteora and Burke Catholic slide in between 2 and 4. Spackenkill is probably sitting at No. 5. Highland, the four-time defending Section 9 champion, needs a strong second half to qualify in 2013.

Class C: This is a toss-up right now between Chester and Millbrook. Tri-Valley, Tuxedo and Fallsburg are next in line. Since those Division V teams will spend the next six weeks or so beating up on each other, they all might be a little better than their records indicate. This could be anyone’s bracket by the end of February.

Class D: It’s slim pickings right now, but Eldred looks like the top seed. Livingston Manor, the defending Section 9 champion, had yet to win a game, but that should change as the Wildcats get into the Division VI schedule. With Webutuck failing to field a team and the girls from Roscoe playing for Downsville of Section 4 this season, the D bracket is especially thin.
