Quick Monroe-Woodbury-Minisink Valley preview

Schedule makers picked a pretty good match to close out the Section 9 wrestling regular season.

Monroe-Woodbury (24-2) vs. Minisink Valley (23-5) Friday night in Slate Hill.

Monroe-Woodbury defeated Minisink Valley 47-15 in the Section 9 Duals semifinals on Dec. 5.

Potential for some great matchups.

The main event could be Minisink Valley’s Josh Bonneau vs. Monroe-Woodbury’s Rob Kelly at 220 pounds. Bonneau has won two of three matches against Middletown’s Alex Ortiz, another top 220-pounder. Kelly, who returned from injury Tuesday,  hasn’t wrestled Bonneau or Ortiz this season. He isn’t sure if he will match up against Bonneau tonight. Kelly could bump up to 285.

“That’s up to coach (Steve Fischbein) and whatever helps the team,” Kelly said. “It’s not my call.”

Minisink Valley coach Kevin Gallagher said Bonneau will wrestle at 220.

Monroe-Woodbury senior J.P. Vandercliff’s 160-pound match against Minisink Valley’s Amon Gervais should be close one. Gervais gave Vandercliff a tough match in a 10-5 loss in December.
