It was a pretty good night all-around for the Newburgh Free Academy girls’ basketball team.

The Goldbacks beat Warwick in overtime, 42-39. Sarah Williams had 12 points and 20 rebounds for NFA. Katie Cook had 10 points, 10 assists and hit the game-winning 3-point field goal with 16 seconds remaining in overtime.

The team also raised $202 for the American Cancer Society as part of a Coaches vs. Cancer event. The day before, the NFA boys’ team raised $146, bringing Newburgh’s total contribution to $346.

Last week, Minisink Valley’s girls’ basketball team raised $1,500 for the ACS. For more on that, follow this link.

Any other teams out there using their sport to raise money for a good cause? Let me know on Twitter: @THR_Montgomery.
