Middletown’s M&M’s – Martinez and Marcano – helping Middies to impressive start

Looking for a breakout team this spring? There are several candidates this season, but tops on my list is Middletown.

Coach Denise McKeown’s Middies are 5-3. Middletown won three games last season. Leading the way for Middletown is a pair of young guns if you will.

Freshman Allison Marcano and Jazmyn Martinez, only an eighth-grader, are making names for themselves. Both played on Middletown’s undefeated modified outfit last spring. Both can pitch – and swing the bat. Marcano has taken over the role as No. 1 starter after tossing a no-hitter against Minisink Valley last Friday.

She added a one-hitter in a win over Newburgh on Monday. Of course, McKeown won’t hesitate to give the ball to Martinez, a former Middletown Little League star. Martinez threw a one-hitter against Wallkill earlier this month. Middletown has definitely evolved into a tough out.

The Middies’ three losses have come to Valley Central (3-0), Kingston (4-0) and Delaware Valley (5-4). Watch out for Middletown and, of course, Marcano and Martinez down the stretch.
