Last year, mid-Hudson’s team that competed in the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Summer Hoops Festival served as “The Redeem Team”, taking the bronze medal a year after going winless.
And what about this summer’s squad? Can they take the gold? We will find out later this summer. But, first, we have to see what the team looks like.
Tryouts for the mid-Hudson boys’ team that will compete in the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival will be held from 6-8 p.m. on June 5 and 8 at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
The third annual BCANY event will be held in Johnson City from August 2-4. The mid-Hudson team finished third at last year’s event. Nine regions will compete: New York City, Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Central, Hudson Valley, Capital District, Mid-Hudson and Southern Tier.
The boys’ coaching staff will include S.S. Seward assistant Sal Mineo and Pine Plains head coach Brendan LoBrutto. In order to participate, players must fill out the Hoops Festival application form and waiver form, and attend both tryouts. Players can see their own varsity coach for tryouts paperwork or contact Mineo at email@example.com. The waiver form may be printed out by visiting BCANY.org.
Last year, many Division I, II and II coaches scouted the event.
