NEW PALTZ — For the second straight season, John A. Coleman Catholic is the Section 9 Class D baseball champion.
The Statesmen, the No. 2 seed, scored six unearned runs in a 7-3 victory over No. 1 Eldred at SUNY New Paltz.

After a few days of rain, it was a busy slate in Section 9 high school baseball as the other classes played catch-up. Here’s a quick rundown of the games. Here are the updated brackets in digital form.
Class AA
Valley Central 2, Newburgh Free Academy 0
James Karinchak threw a 3-hitter with eight strikeouts as No. 4 Valley Central beat No. 5 NFA in a Class AA quarterfinal.
Valley Central plays at No. 1 Kingston on Thursday.
Minisink Valley 12, Roosevelt 5
Josh Walker was 3-for-3 and scored four runs and also picked up the win as No. 7 Minisink Valley topped No. 3 FDR at Dutchess Stadium.
The Warriors are in the Section 9 final and will play the winner of the VC/Kingston game on Friday, which will be played at Pine Bush.
Class A
Cornwall 4, Wallkill 3
Steve Octave’s two-run go-ahead single in the bottom of the sixth lifted No. 1 Cornwall to a semifinal victory over No. 5 Wallkill.
The Dragons are in the Section 9 final, which will be played Friday at Cantine Field in Saugerties.
Red Hook 3, Port Jervis 0
Nate Tomlinson threw a 6-hitter and A.J. Coolbaugh was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI in No. 6 Red Hook’s quarterfinal victory at No. 3 Port Jervis.
Red Hook plays at No. 2 New Paltz in a semifinal on Thursday.
Class B
Onteora 5, Highland 2
Ryan McDowell struck out eight over 6 2/3 innings and Pat Wortman picked up a two-pitch save as No. 4 Onteora topped No. 1 Highland in a Class B semifinal.
Onteora (21-2) is in the section final, which will be played at Marlboro High School on Friday. No. 3 Spackenkill plays at No. 2 James I. O’Neill in the other semifinal on Thursday.
Class C
Tri-Valley 12, Chester 6
Rodney Jester was 3-for-3 with three RBI and he also earned the win as No. 4 Tri-Valley knocked off No. 1 Chester in the semifinal round.
Tri-Valley plays No. 2 Rhinebeck in Thursday’s 4 p.m. final at SUNY New Paltz.
