Bianco coming up big in postseason for Marlboro

PATCHOGUE – We all knew Marlboro pitcher Aubrey Bianco was good, but in the postseason, she’s taken it to another level.

That’s right, Aubrey Bianco has become a hero. Her latest performance helped Marlboro defeat Babylon 8-3 in the quarterfinals of the Class B state tournament on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.

After giving up three runs in the first inning, Bianco (15-1) put up zeroes the rest of the way. She added three hits, including a two-run double, and three RBI. Bianco had some big hits and settled down on the mound to help take out Valhalla 11-5 in the first round on Monday at Rhinebeck High.

Of course, Bianco has plenty of back up – from among others – catcher Nina Wimberly, to third baseman Cassie LaPointe, to second baseman Ashley Votta and center fielder Danielle Martuscello. Next up for Bianco’s bunch?

The Iron Dukes take on defending champion Chatham (23-0) in the semifinals at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury. Chatham advanced to the final four with its own 8-3 win over Canton on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Ace Kyla Doty, who will play at the University of Connecticut next year, leads Chatham.

Marlboro is making its second appearance in the Class B state semifinals, losing to Mechanicville 2-0 in the final four in 2009.
