Cornwall, Coleman Catholic and Minisink Valley bow out in state baseball tournament: VIDEO

FISHKILL – A pair of reigning state champions – Cornwall and John A. Coleman Catholic – bowed out of state tournament play Tuesday, as did Minsink Valley.

In a tripleheader at Dutchess Stadium, Section 1 swept a trio of games against teams from Section 9.

Arlington defeated Minisink Valley in a Class AA quarterfinal, 10-3.

John Jay-Cross River beat Cornwall in a Class A quarterfinal, 9-2.

Haldane topped Rhinebeck in a Class C quarterfinal, 9-0.

At SUNY New Paltz, Smithtown Christian beat John A. Coleman Catholic in a Class D quarterfinal, 11-8.

That leaves Spackenkill as the only Section 9 baseball team still standing. The Spartans play Wheatley School in a Class B quarterfinal at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Farmingdale State.

I’ll be working on putting together the Varsity845 All-Stars later this week. I will let you know when we plan on putting that in the paper as soon as I get a concrete date. I’m also planning on putting together some sort of season wrap-up blog post after state finals are over and the final rankings are released. What were your favorite moments, performances or games of the year? Let me know on Twitter: @THR_Montgomery.
