Marlboro softball headed to state finals: VIDEO

QUEENSBURY – The Marlboro softball team will play for a state title later this afternoon.

Marlboro played Section 2′s Chatham in a Class B semifinal earlier today. The Dukes didn’t get their first hit until the ninth inning, but it was a big one. Ashley Votta singled in Amber Mianti for the game’s first run in the top of the ninth (check out the video below for the hit). The next batter, Aubrey Bianco, hit a two-run home run. Marlboro closed it out in the bottom of the ninth to win, 3-0.

Chatham had won 42 straight games. The Panthers were the 2012 state champions. Chatham ace Kayla Doty will pitch at UConn.

Marlboro will play Windsor of Section 4, which won 3-1 in other semifinal, at approximately 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
