Police were called to the scene after a brawl broke out at Tuesday’s Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys’ soccer game between Wallkill and Roosevelt in Hyde Park.
Wallkill remained perfect (11-0) with a 3-0 win.
The altercation began with pushing and shoving late in the first half, but quickly escalated. According to sources at the game, punches were thrown by players, and fans from both sides came on the field to break up the fight. The incident lasted about two minutes.
Hyde Park Police arrived to the scene and no arrests were believed to be made. Officers remained at the game until it concluded, without any incident. As a result of the brawl, two players from Wallkill and Roosevelt were given red cards.
Due to the cards, both teams’ played two men down for the rest of the game and the players will have to sit out one game. The person who answered the phone at the Hyde Park Police department on Tuesday night declined to answer questions about the incident.
Wallkill coach Todd Andrews declined comment.
