Wendy Herm, a 1995 Minisink Valley graduate, has been selected to be inducted into the state softball hall of fame.
A ceremony is scheduled for June 14 in Herkimer.
Herm was a four-year starter at Minisink Valley in soccer, softball and basketball. She had a .408 career batting average, helping the Warriors to two state Class B softball titles. Herm scored 1,227 career points for the basketball team and put in 64 goals on the soccer field. She went on to play softball at Princeton.
Herm, 36, is now a marketing executive for Red Bull Energy Drink. In October 2010, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Herm has undergone radiation treatments, including five weeks last October, to try to shrink the tumor. The treatments didn’t work, however, but the mass hasn’t grown since.
“I’m really honored,” Herm said from Los Angeles, where she is on a business trip. Herm lives in Brooklyn. “It obviously makes me reflect on my teammates, the great program and the Minisink Valley community. It’s a distant memory, but this brings it closer to the surface. It’s a great excuse to dig back to memory lane.”
