MIDDLETOWN – Will Montgomery back in the press box at Faller Field. I’ll be providing updates throughout the five boys’ soccer state championship games today. Check back for updates later on.
NYSPHSAA BOYS’ SOCCER FINALS SCOREBOARD
Massapequa 1, Fairport 0: Dylan Nealis scores off a direct kick with 21:42 remaining in the second half to lead Massapequa, which had defeated Monroe-Woodbury in the semifinals on Saturday, to the Class AA title. It was Massapequa’s first state soccer title.
Pittsford-Mendon 0, Jericho 0 (OT): After 110 minutes of scoreless yet exciting soccer, Jericho won its third straight Class A state title. This is the first it shared.
Carle Place 3, Westhill 0: Dylan Klein scored a pair of goals and Roberto Posillico also scored for Carle Place of Section 8, which won its first state title.
Friends Academy 1, Lansing 0: Jon Nierenberg headed in a goal with 20 minutes to play, lifting Friends Academy to its first state title since winning in back-to-back years in 2009-10.
Jasper-Troupsburg 1, Chazy 1 (OT): After playing 110 even minutes, Chazy won its seventh state title in program history, which have all come since 2004.
7:26: Back at the office. Friends Academy held on to a 1-0 lead to win by that score in the Class C final over Lansing. So Section 8 was crowned champion in four of the five classifications this year. A good year for Nassau County. Again, thanks for reading and check out Monday’s Times Herald-Record for more on Middletown making a bid for three more years of state soccer from 2015-17.
4:25: Headed down to the field to get some video from this game. Check out my Twitter link above for updates in case anyone scores. I’ll post a final here when I get back to the office. Thanks for reading this weekend.
4:21: The second half is underway between Lansing and Friends Academy in the Class C final.
4:08: We have a pair of co-champions in Classes A and D. Jericho and Pittsford-Mendon played to a 0-0 draw and will share the Class A state title. Chazy and Jasper-Troupsburg played to a 1-1 tie in the Class D game, so they’ll be co-champs as well. The Class C game, featuring Lansing and Friends Academy, is scoreless at the half.
1:15: Jericho and Pittsford-Mendon are indeed scoreless at the half.
1:10: The Class D game is underway on the grass field. Jericho and Pittsford-Mendon are scoreless with under 5:00 to play in the first half. If this were a prizefight, I’ve have to give the scoring to Mendon so far, they have put a ton of chances on net.
12:54: We’re midway through the first half in the Class A championship game. Jericho and Pittsford-Mendon are scoreless. The Class D game should be kicking off at 1 p.m.
12:36 p.m.: Carle Place wins the Class B title with a 3-0 victory over Westhill. And in the AA game, Massapequa did hang on for a 1-0 victory over Fairport. The Class A game between Jericho and Pittsford-Mendon has just gotten underway on the turf field. The Class D game (Chazy and Jasper-Troupsburg) will start on the grass field shortly.
11:35: Carle Place scores again with 34 minutes left in the second half. It’s now a 2-0 lead over Westhill. Goal by Roberto Posillico.
