Stalnaker takes third in backstroke to lead Section 9 swimmers

Monroe-Woodbury junior Taylor Stalnaker placed third in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 57.15 seconds at the state girls’ swimming and diving championship finals at Ithaca College.
Stalnaker led a strong group of Section 9 swimmers in the backstroke, as foue other local swimmers also placed in the top 15 in the event. Monroe-Woodbury’s Erica Bachiller was sixth, Valley Central’s ┬áKaitlyn Troy placed eighth, Newburgh Free Academy’s Bana Hadid was 11th and New Paltz’s Caroline Murphy took 15th place.
Minisink Valley’s Jessica Crumm placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Kingston’s 200 medley relay team also took home a top-10 finish, placing eighth.

100 freestyle: 1. Andrea Ernst (Orchard Park) 50.88; 18. Kaitlyn Troy (Valley Central) 53.88; 20. Bridget Rodezno (New Paltz) 54.84.

500 freestyle: 1. Lindsay Stone (Pittsford) 4:49.03; 8. Kathryn Bergin (Rhinebeck) 5:04.37.

200 freestyle relay: 1. Pittsford 1:35.34.

100 backstroke: 1. Emma Hadley (Horace Greeley) 56.71; 3. Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe-Woodbury) 57.15; 6. Erica Bachiller (Monroe-Woodbury) 58.37; 8. Kaitlyn Troy (Valley Central) 58.57; 11. Bana Hadid (Newburgh Free Academy) 58.78; 15. Caroline Murphy (New Paltz) 59.84.
