MONTGOMERY — I caught up with the Wallkill girls’ basketball team after their first game of the 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Corinne Feller Memorial Tournament and the Panthers said they’re hoping to pick up where they left off.
That’s pretty much what they did.
Wallkill beat Pine Bush 61-45, looking good in just about every aspect of the game.
Chelsea Murphy scored 18 points to lead the Panthers. She had two 3-point buckets and also sliced her way through the lane for some points at the rim.
Rachel Simon scored 14 points, making three 3-pointers in the first half and grabbing four rebounds.
Heather Kiczek scored 11 points and battled in the paint against Pine Bush’s 6-foot-4 freshman center Kate Cain, and she also made a pair of 3-pointers herself.
Team captains Kelly Markisello (6 points) and Bridget McKeever (2 points) did the dirty work that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet and a bunch of bench players chipped in to help the Panthers beat Pine Bush.

I’ll be posting girls’ basketball updates on my Twitter page all season long. Check it out here: @THR_Montgomery.
