White, Bauer (Class A), Williams, Deoul, Garcia (AA) named all-state first-team

Cornwall senior quarterback Mike White is now a two-time Class A first-team all-state selection.

And, for the second year in a row, White is joined on the team by one of his wide receivers: Senior Chris Bauer also made the first team. Cornwall’s Alex Cruz was an all-state first-teamer at wide receiver last season. The New York State Sportswriters Association released its Class AA and Class A all-state teams on Tuesday.

“It’s definitely a good way to go out,” said White, the 2012 Varsity845 Player of the Year. “It’s something a lot of kids work for and it’s definitely a great accomplishment. It’s pretty cool to be able to accomplish first-team all-state again.”

White threw for 2,557 yards and 26 touchdowns with just five interceptions this season, leading Cornwall to its third straight Section 9 Class A championship. His 7,386 career yards is a Section 9 record.

Despite missing three games with a punctured lung late in the season, Bauer caught 39 passes for 832 yards with 14 touchdowns for Cornwall this season. His five touchdown catches in a game against Saugerties last October is a Section 9 record.

Three Class AA players made the first-team – Washingtonville junior kicker Derek Deoul, defensive back Jalen Williams, a senior, and Warwick senior quarterback Brad Garcia who was named to the team as an all-purpose player. The all-state football teams are compiled using input from numerous reporters, league officials and coaches across the state.

Williams, who will play at the University of Pittsburgh next year, also made the first-team last season. Deoul made 10 field goals this season, setting a Section 9 record with a 52-yarder against Saugerties. He has 20 career field goals, which ties Deoul for the Section 9 record. Garcia rushed for 2,549 yards, the third-most in Section 9 history, and 27 touchdowns last season. He owns four of the top-15 rushing performances in Section 9 history.

“I’m just very happy and humbled,” Deoul said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m hoping for more of the same next season. I’m just thankful for my snapper (Ivan Reategui) and holder (Keith Leonard) and they are both back next year.”
