Video: Pine Bush softball looks to repeat as Class AA champs in crowded field

No team was hotter down the stretch last season than Pine Bush, which as the fourth-seed, won the Section 9 Class AA title with a 9-1 win over Middletown.

It was some run.

With the impressive Middletown win, Pine Bush made history, claiming its first Section 9 title ever. The Bushmen had previously lost in the Section 9 championship game six times (two AA and four A), dating back to their first appearance in 1982.

Pine Bush hopes to pick up where it left off last season and repeat as champs in a deep Class AA field. Headliners in Class AA include Kingston, Middletown and Valley Central. However, Roosevelt, Minisink Valley and Warwick aren’t pushovers.

Pine Bush took a hit last season, graduating three Varsity845 first-team all-stars – first baseman Alyssa Hasbrouck, catcher Kelly Klewicki and shortstop Crysti Eichner. But the Bushmen will be back in the mix. Why? For starters, roll out a three-pack of solid returning sophomores – second baseman Sydney Hofmann, pitcher Michaela Veneziali and catcher Katherine Parise, who played in the outfield.

Don’t forget about dynamic senior center fielder Felicia Torres, either. After practice on Monday, I talked to Pine Bush coach Mike Mancuso, Veneziali (a talented player of few words, as you will see on the video) and Parise.
