Latest top 10 boys’ basketball rankings: Feb. 15

  1. Middletown (13-2): Can clinch the OCIAA Division I title with a win at Pine Bush on Wednesday.
  2. Valley Central (12-3): Playing its best ball in, perhaps, a decade with “The Big Three” —Kenny Gray, Savion Boissard and Isaiah Boissard — leading the way.
  3. Red Hook (14-1): There are plenty of teams playing well in Section 9, but Red Hook might be the (Red) hottest of them all.
  4. Monroe-Woodbury (9-7): In what seemed like, perhaps, an impossible task  — coach Ron Montalto has reinvigorated the Crusaders during his second run as Monroe-Woodbury’s head man.
  5. Pine Bush (10-6): Tough back-to-back games with Middletown and Newburgh, desperate to get into the Section 9 playoffs, on Friday.
  6. Monticello (13-3): Has won nine games in a row since back-to-back losses to Wallkill (Dec. 29) and Washingtonville (Jan. 3).
  7. Burke Catholic (9-7): Becomes an even more formidable team with 6-foot-6 big man Riley Hayes returning after missing several weeks with a foot injury.
  8. Saugerties (11-3): Tough loss to Wallkill last week, but Saugerties can still punch a ticket to the MHAL final four with a win over Roosevelt on Thursday. The Sawyers must first get by Highland on Tuesday.
  9. Washingtonville (9-8): Not much magic from the Wizards lately (yeah, that was bad) as they have lost three of four. However, Washingtonville almost took out Valley Central last week, losing in overtime.
  10. Newburgh (6-9): Must win two of its last three to qualify for the Section 9 tournament. It won’t be easy. The Goldbacks are at Kingston on Wednesday and you know the Tigers, already eliminated, would love to play spoiler. Newburgh follows up with Pine Bush on Friday and Middletown on Feb. 23.
