MW’s Humphrey scores 100th career goal

Monroe-Woodbury girls lacrosse coach Liz Cassese considers Julie Humphrey one of the most selfless players on the team.

She’s a hard-worker, a leader and a teacher. Cassese often sees Humphrey, a senior midfielder, working closely with other players.

So it was nice for Cassese and the rest of the team to see Humphrey get some well-deserved attention on Saturday. Humphrey reached 100 goals for her career, scoring four, in a 16-9 non-league win at Clarkstown North.

“It was really exciting,” Cassese said. “Julie worked so hard for this. She just does so many wonderful things for our team. I’m glad she was able to do this because she is so dedicated to the sport.”

Said Humphrey of reaching the milestone: “It feels really good. It’s exciting, it’s a nice highlight. I’m happy to have the support from my school and team. We kind of had a countdown going for the 100th goal.”

Humphrey plans on majoring in Biology/Pre-Med at SUNY Geneseo next year and will try out for the women’s lacrosse team.

“I definitely have to work hard,” she said. “But I’m excited for the opportunity.”
