Kingston freshman Jake Hommel made a par on the final round (No. 4) to win the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association championship by two strokes over Cornwall’s Ryan Rodriguez and Valley Central’s Andrew Barone.
Hommel and Rodriguez, who were playing in the same group, were tied at 4-over par, entering their final hole, a par-5. Hommel chipped his fourth shot from the greenside bunker to with three feet and finished with a 4-over 74. Rodriguez had a double bogey on the hole for a 6-over 76.
Barone, a senior, and Valley Central senior Brad Miller, who finished fourth with a 77, both played their round on Sunday because they were taking an AP exam Monday.
Defending champion Justin Theilig of Kingston finished fifth (79). Newburgh Free Academy seventh-grader Zain Jafar was sixth with an 80.
The top 29 plus ties advanced to the first round of the Section 9 tournament on May 19 at The Powelton Club in Newburgh.
