OCIAA boys tennis: Three Cornwall teams advance to semis

Cornwall’s Matt Alvarez and Mike Doulin fought off three match points in the second set and outlasted Monroe-Woodbury’s Colin Gordon and Vamshi Adimulam 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association quarterfinal Wednesday at Match Point Tennis in Goshen.

Alvarez and Doulin will play teammates Paul-Hudson Erwin and Andrew Shin in a semifinal matchup of Cornwall’s top two doubles teams this season.

Cornwall’s Mike Miller and Dan Leach will meet Pine Bush seniors Tyler Dupee and Aidan Hrynda in the other semifinal. Dupee and Hrynda arrived in Goshen early Wednesday morning and waited until after 4:30 p.m. to play their first match due to AP testing. They rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kingston’s Matan Winnick and Babak Namirinian in the round of 16 and defeated Warwick’s David Beggel and Pearse Algiere, a state doubles qualifier last season, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
