Section 9 girls golf: Stanton first-round leader

Warwick eighth-grader Charlotte Stanton shot a 9-over-par 80 and leads the Section 9 championship by four strokes after the first round at Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland.

Playing in her first section tournament, Stanton carded a 40 on the front and back nine.

Pine Bush freshman Pasqualina Tartaglione is in second place with an 84. Ellenville’s Amber Pennington, a Rondout Valley seventh grader, had an 86 and is in third place.

Defending champion Katie Krahulik, a Warwick senior, shot a 90 and is tied for fourth with Valley Central senior Krissy Buermeyer.

The top 18 golfers advanced to the second and final round at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Apple Greens. The top nine golfers Wednesday will play in the state championship on June 13-14 at SUNY Delhi.
