State golf final round: Powers ties for 21st

Eldred’s David Powers birdied two of his first three holes during his second and final round of the state tournament.

Powers finished the round with his third birdie of the day on the par-5, 18th hole. A 5-over-par 76 tied Powers, a junior playing in his third state championship, for 21st (12-over 154).

James Nicholas of  Scarsdale fired an even-par 71 Monday to win the tournament at 4-over.

Kingston freshman Jake Hommel tied for 48th place (82-81-163).
