State tournament: Krahulik tops Section 9 after first round

Warwick’s Katie Krahulik turned in her best round of the state tournament in her fifth and final championship.

Krahulik, a senior who will play for Division I Hofstra, shot an 8-over-par 80 in the first round at SUNY Delhi and is in 14th place heading into Sunday’s final round. She made 11 pars.

Auburn freshman Lindsay May is 18 holes away from winning her second straight state title. May shot a 4-under 68 Saturday.

Warwick eighth-grader and Section 9 champion Charlotte Stanton birdied the first hole and finished with a 12-over 84. Stanton is tied for 19th place.

Pine Bush freshman Pasqualina Tartaglione had birdies on the sixth and 16th holes. Tartaglione finished at 13-over 85 and is tied for 23rd place.

The second and final round will start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
