Many events postponed by oppressive heat

The oppressive heat and humidity on Tuesday afternoon has caused the postponement of a number of athletic contests.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s heat index procedure requires all games and practices to be postponed – or moved indoors to an air-conditioned space – if the heat index is 96 degrees or above. At 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, the heat index in Middletown was 98 degrees.
